Halloween is back after almost a decade of being absent from the big screen—the longest hiatus ever in the history of the series. For the third time the series has broken continuity to make this latest film a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 original cult classic thereby ignoring all previous films. With John Carpenter returning for the first time since Halloween III (which doesn’t really count) this installment is noteworthy because of his blessing, creative influence, along with a fresh new score composed by Carpenter himself. Also, Jamie Lee Curtis is back after 16 years—once again reprising her role as Laurie Strode. Halloween is one of Silver Screen Guide’s most anticipated films of the year and a long expected return to the original form of the series by most fans. Corbin and Allen are excited to discuss with you Halloween!

Monday Oct 15, 2018
2 years after Chazelle’s Oscar hit, Whiplash, he came back with a film that would tie the record for 14 Academy Award nominations. La La Land quickly became a massive success with major buzz across the United States. People were clamoring to see its hit and miss wide release showings. With a memorable faux Best Picture win, yet still winning six Oscars, La La Land is considered a love letter to Old Hollywood musicals that surely will be regarded as a modern day classic. Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss La La Land in anticipation for Chazelle’s latest film with the clout of Steven Spielberg behind him—First Man.

Whiplash (2014) | Movie Review | Second in Damien Chazelle Reviews
Monday Oct 08, 2018
Monday Oct 08, 2018
5 years after Chazelle's sleeper, indie hit, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Chazelle returned to theaters with a 5 time Oscar nominee (including 3 Oscar wins) film that explores the darker side of jazz. Boasting a higher production quality and two famous cast members, Whiplash was one of the most talked about films that mainstream audiences didn’t see. With an extremely limited theatrical run, most people caught Whiplash on home video and ever since it has riveted their thoughts on jazz music, music teachers, and a return to a higher standard of cinema. IMDB users rank it as the 44th greatest film of all time. Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss Whiplash--in anticipation for his latest film, First Man, this November--to find out of it Chazelle’s second film is his greatest work.

Rob Zombie's Halloween II (2009) | Movie Review
Wednesday Oct 03, 2018
Wednesday Oct 03, 2018
Two years after Rob Zombie brought his reimagined remake of Halloween to the big screen, audiences weren't asking for a sequel but the profitability of the first warranted a second. Halloween II eschewed all rules and conventions of the series to bring a supernatural nightmarish vision of gratuitous profanity and Nihilism of the Myers family. Zombie's startling film made audiences feel as if they hadn't even seen a Halloween movie, making this one of the most despised installments of the franchise. Nearly a decade later, has viewers opinion changed on this possibly misinterpreted entry? Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss the last entry in their retrospective series before they review John Carpenter's new Halloween this October!

Nine years ago, little did the world know one of the most well-renowned wunderkind directors would garner 19 Academy Award nominations between his first two widely distributed films, Whiplash and La La Land, when he made his directorial debut with a little-known film called Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench. Receiving praise at festivals such as Tribeca and AFI, Guy and Madeline was a hit that most moviegoers didn't know about. Join Corbin and Allen as they take a look at Chazelle's earliest work in anticipation for his latest film, First Man, this November.

Mother of Tears (2007) | Movie Review | Third in the Three Mothers Trilogy
Monday Sep 24, 2018
Monday Sep 24, 2018
27 years is all it took to finish the Three Mothers trilogy Italian master of horror Dario Argento began in 1977. After the 1980 release of Inferno, fans expected a third and final installment, at the very least, within the decade...they were sorely mistaken. Once Argento decided to return to finish the trilogy in the early 2000's, the hype surrounding the film reached a level never enjoyed by its two predecessors, Suspiria and Inferno, during their theatrical run. Mother of Tears owes its success to Suspiria which had become a cult classic. But is Mother of Tears a worthy final installment to the Three Mothers trilogy? Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss the film to find out!

Inferno (1980) | Movie Review | Second in the Three Mothers Trilogy
Monday Sep 17, 2018
Monday Sep 17, 2018
Three years after Dario Argento's modest success, Suspiria, the Italian director returned to the pyschofantastical world of the Three Mothers. Inferno follows a man in America looking for his sister who just so happens to live in the second Mother's lair. Argento's wife, Daria Nicolodi, decided to leave the writers chair on the set of Suspiria so she could star as one of the leads in this followup. Toning down the visual flair and opting for a funky soundtrack makes the sequel pull some punches Suspiria knocked out of the park, but Argento channels some famous horror directors to create some unforgettable sequences. Does Inferno live up to the hype Suspiria has generated in the past 40 years? Is Inferno the oft-overlooked cult classic that should sit right there with it's older sister? Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss the movie to find out!

Famed Italian master of horror, Dario Argento, brought his terrifying vision of bright colors and lights with a sinister score from Goblin to the United States big screen. In 1977, the horror genre had stalled with uninspiried sequels such as Exorcist II: The Heretic. Alas, horror came into its own niche with independent films such as Eraserhead and The Hills Have Eyes and, of course, Suspiria. Considered one of the greatest horror films of all time, Argento weaves a nightmarish vision of wild colors, witches, and ballet dancers. With unforgettable craft, Argento's vision of horror is unparalleled. Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss the first installment in Argento's Three Mothers trilogy leading up to the remake of Suspiria this November!
