7 long years have passed since Star Trek had a theatrical film--the franchise seemed dead in the water not only on the big screen but also on the small screen with the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise. But on Trek's 30th theatrical anniversary, JJ Abrams and his writing duo from Mission Impossible: III teamed up to create a massive blockbuster filled with action while honoring the original films. Is this prequel/reimagining worthy to take its place among Shatner & Stewart?
Join the discussion! Question after the show: Is this a worthy Star Trek reboot? Why or why not?

This is the end so catch up on our previous THREE Mad Max Movie Reviews!
30 years, yes that's right listeners, three decades after Mad Max: Beyond Thurderdome blasted into cinemas, George Miller resurrected Max Rockatansky to take one more ride, this time on the Fury Road. Mel Gibson passed the role of Max onto a much younger Tom Hardy--this film, once again, features a new cast of characters but in the same outrageous Australian Outback. Although this is the fourth (and many consider the best) installment, it was a time for firsts: this is the first entry in the series to receive any Oscar nominations. Miller, at this point, had already won a few Oscars for his childrens films, but this film blew out the 2016 Academy Awards. Fury Road was nominated for 10 Oscars--including Best Picture and the film would go on to take home 6 Oscars (the most of the night!).
Fun fact, Hugh Keays-Byrne who played Toe-Cutter in the first Mad Max, has a new part as the ghastly villian Immortan Joe. Is the fourth time the charm? Join Corbin and Allen as they speed onto the Fury Road to discuss Mad Max: Fury Road! Is this your favorite entry in the quadrilogy? Let us know in the comments below and your ranking of the films! The Sixth Sense (1999) | Movie Review | M Night Shyamalan's Third Film
Monday Apr 08, 2019
Monday Apr 08, 2019
In 1999, a little-known director by the name of M. Night Shyamalan took the cinema by storm with...Stuart Little...(read my review and please follow me on Letterboxd while you're at it).
Wait...no in 1999 M Night Shyamalan, a relatively unknown filmmaker, made headlines with an anything-but-little film called The Sixth Sense. What most remember as Shyamalan's first film was actually his third (technically fourth writing), but the film was a massive hit! At the box office it was the second highest grossing film of the year, just behind Star Wars Episode I and the film received 6 nominations at the Academy Awards including two nominations for Shyamalan and Best Picture. To overlook this film's impact on cinematic history would be unfortunate. Join Corbin and Allen as they use all 6 senses to reevaluate IMDB's 162nd greatest film of all time--M Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense.

Six years after the major Oscar success that was Casablanca--Bogart returned to the Oscars...but with no nomination. The film itself garnered four nominations including Best Picture. Many consider Bogart's role as Fred C. Dobbs to be one of his greatest performances and a shocking mystery why he wasn't nominated. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre received critical acclaim, yet confounded audiences with its dark twist and unconventional storytelling, but today it is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. This is Corbin's favorite Humphrey Bogart film! Join Corbin and Allen to find out why they love it so much and comment below what is your favorite part about this movie!

The wunderkind, Damien Chazelle, continues to achieve new heights…literally. His latest story shifts his long-held focus away from jazz music to a major moment in not only American history but also the history of mankind when one man, Neil Armstrong, walked on the moon. First Man chronicles Armstrong’s personal life and how it affects his out of this world journey. How does Chazelle’s first non-musical film compare to his recording tie 14 Oscar nom La La Land? With the backing of Steven Spielberg, Chazelle crafts a riveting drama. Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss and conclude (for now) their Chazelle retrospective series!

2 years after Chazelle’s Oscar hit, Whiplash, he came back with a film that would tie the record for 14 Academy Award nominations. La La Land quickly became a massive success with major buzz across the United States. People were clamoring to see its hit and miss wide release showings. Whiplash (2014) | Movie Review | Second in Damien Chazelle Reviews
Monday Oct 08, 2018
Monday Oct 08, 2018
5 years after Chazelle's sleeper, indie hit, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Chazelle returned to theaters with a 5 time Oscar nominee (including 3 Oscar wins) film that explores the darker side of jazz. Boasting a higher production quality and two famous cast members, Whiplash was one of the most talked about films that mainstream audiences didn’t see. With an extremely limited theatrical run, most people caught Whiplash on home video and ever since it has riveted their thoughts on jazz music, music teachers, and a return to a higher standard of cinema. IMDB users rank it as the 44th greatest film of all time. Join Corbin and Allen as they discuss Whiplash--in anticipation for his latest film, First Man, this November--to find out of it Chazelle’s second film is his greatest work.
